About me
Jens Ludwig is the Edwin A. and Betty L. Bergman Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago, Pritzker director of the University of Chicago Crime Lab and co-director of the University of Chicago Education Lab, which he helped found 15 years ago to work closely with the public sector to help solve social problems. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine, a member of the Committee on Law and Justice of the National Academy of Sciences, and the author of Unforgiving Places: The Unexpected Origins of American Gun Violence (2025, University of Chicago Press), which argues that everything we think we know about gun violence is wrong and that behavioral economics gives us a better way to understand – and solve – the problem.
